Important Dates
The mode of IIT Chennai admission is online. IIT Madras admission to various programmes is done through national-level entrance exams, including JEE Main/ JEE Advanced, IIT JAM and GATE, etc. For admission to the flagship BTech programmes, students are selected based on valid JEE-Advanced ranks, followed by the JoSAA counselling process. On the successful completion of the counselling process, students are selected for the final seat allotment after the doc verification & tuition fee payment.

Commonly asked questions On Cutoffs
IIT Madras BTech cutoff 2025 has been released for Round 1, wherein, B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering is the most competitive specialsiation with a closing rank of 171 for the General AII India category students. The least competitive course is B.Tech. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering with a cutoff rank of 6926. So, candidates seeking admission to any of the BTech course must secure a rank upto 171 to be eligible for IIT Madras
IIT Madras admissio to the BTech course is based on JEE Advanced scores, followed by JoSAA counselling process.
"IIT Madras - Indian Institute of Technology will release 6 rounds of JEE Advanced cutoffs for admission to BTech. The cutoffs will be released on a rolling basis, and the seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The cutoffs will be based on the following factors:
- The JEE Advanced score of the candidate
- The category of the candidate
- The number of seats available in the course
Candidates must visit the official website of entrance exam to read clear instructions on how to proceed with the counselling process, once the round is released."
IIT Madras JEE Advanced cutoff 2024 was concluded for different courses such as BTech, Integrated BTech and BS. The cutoff for the General AI category candidates closed at a range of 159 and 10682. During 2023, the cutoff ranks for the same was closed at a range of 148 and 11185. Infrastructure
The Indian Institute of Madras is spread over 617 acres. The institute comprises residential and academic facilities. It has 19 hostels, a hospital, a bank, a shopping complex, and an Incubation Cell that facilitates students with their everyday lives.
- Hostels: IITM Chennai is a fully residential campus. IIT Madras has 19 hostels, out of which four are for girls and 15 are for boys. Hostels are fully equipped with sports facilities, music rooms, tech rooms, and a TV room. It also has a garden and a library.
- The Centre for Innovation (CFI): Set up in 2008, it is India’s biggest 24/7 student lab. CFI is an important part of IIT Madras Entrepreneurial culture.
- Research Park: IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) is India’s first university-based research park. IITMRP has partnered with various companies and start-ups to conduct research. It has more than 3,000 professionals working across corporate R&D units, multinational research centres, and more.
- Library: The IITM Madras has a library that is well-equipped with resources to provide information in digital and printed forms.
